Celebrating GAAD: Advancing Accessibility, Every Day

At Mobility Trust, we’re proud to join organizations around the world in celebrating Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) — a day dedicated to promoting digital access and inclusion for the more than one billion people with disabilities worldwide.

But for us, accessibility isn’t just a cause for a single day. It’s a core commitment woven into everything we do.

What Is GAAD?

GAAD is observed each year on the third Thursday in May. It’s a global movement that shines a spotlight on digital inclusion — from websites and apps to banking platforms, software systems, and more. The goal? To ensure that people with disabilities are not excluded from the digital world due to poor design or lack of consideration.

As our lives become increasingly digital, accessible technology is not a nice-to-have — it’s a human right.

Our Approach to Accessibility

At Mobility Trust, our mission is rooted in empowering independence, mobility, and opportunity through financial access. For many of our clients — including people with mobility disabilities — that means access to adaptive vehicles, accessible home modifications, and assistive technology.

But accessibility isn’t just about the products we help finance. It’s also about:

  •  Ensuring our website and digital platforms meet high accessibility standards.

  •  Building financial products that work for people with cognitive, sensory, or physical disabilities.

  •  Designing client experiences that reflect empathy, inclusion, and dignity.

  •  Collaborating with dealers, partners, and tech providers to ensure accessibility is integrated at every level.

In short: we aim to make access the default — not the exception.

Why It Matters

Accessibility is a powerful equalizer. When we design for inclusion, everyone benefits — not just those with disabilities. Features like voice commands, captioned videos, adjustable fonts, and simplified navigation often help a wide range of users, including older adults, people with temporary injuries, or those using mobile devices in challenging environments.

And the financial industry must do more to catch up. For people with disabilities, traditional banking systems often pose barriers — from inaccessible online forms to confusing application processes and lack of adaptive customer service. That’s where mission-driven financial innovation can lead the way.

Looking Ahead

On this Global Accessibility Awareness Day, we invite our community — clients, partners, and peers — to take a closer look at how your systems serve all people.

  • Does your website support screen readers?

  • Can customers navigate your services without using a mouse?

  • Are you including people with disabilities in your user testing?

Let’s work together to create inclusive financial pathways that open doors instead of closing them.

Because accessibility isn’t just good design — it’s good business. And it’s the right thing to do.
